Trying to 100% Just Dance
Oct. 6th, 2025 06:47 pmI wrote really vague statuses on status.cafe about completing and 5 star-ing every song in Just Dance. It was fun for maybe a few hours but as you play, it gradually starts to become obvious how actually terrible the motion-control tracking is in the earlier Wii games. I liked this series when I was a kid and my parents loved seeing their overweight daughter getting active in house so they would buy me every game on release up until Just Dance 4. I was a huge contrarian when I was a kid and didn't like the popular (at the time) songs that were in the 4th entry so that was the last game I bought in the series.
Anyway enough about fetus Gia...
Not to like brag or anything, but I love rhythm games and Im lowkey kind of sauced at them. I think the difficult charts in games like Dance Dance Revolution and Tone Sphere are really fun!!
(side note on Tone Sphere, I play on my phone so the circles are closer to eachother than they are on an iPad and I have the speed set to max because its easier to read the notes. Only bringing this up cuz im watching this guy play and it looks SOOO much easier and less cramped on a bigger screen)
Because of this, I thought I'd have no issue 100%-ing Just Dance. Which WAS the case in the beginning. But I started getting to songs that were really hard. And not like complex dancing skills hard. Like, "Ubisoft had no idea what they were doing in the beginning and butchered this games mechanics" hard. Fun fact about this series. The very first game is notorious for having AWFUL tracking. The tracking in this game is actually SO BAD that the maximum score you can get for every induvidual song is still unknown to this day. Which is actually crazy to me. Already knowing this fact before I started, I didnt even bother trying to complete all the songs in the first game and went straight to Just Dance 2. My physical copy of this game got damaged somehow so I had to find a backup of it online and run it on my hacked Wii. (Is it piracy if you already legally owned it before??)
Though the tracking in this game is much better, it's still incredibly flawed, which is a step in the right direction I guess. I kept an excel sheet of all the songs and checked off the ones I 5 starred so I can keep track of how close I was getting to finish. (My boyfriend totally made fun of me for this btw, thanks Micah. :P)

These are all of the songs I managed to 5-Star, along with how many tries it took me. Also, I love Beastie Boys and I absolutely love Fatboy Slim, but I never EVER want to listen to "Body Movin'" AGAIN. I don't understand why this song took me 4 tries to 5-Star???
Like I said before, the tracking here was fine, but some songs were actually Impossible to get right. I want to specifically bring up Benny Benassi's "Satisfaction". This fucking song bro, has the easiest fucking moves in the entire game. You can follow the coach LIKE A FUCKING MIRROR. AND THE GAME WILL STILL FAIL YOU. This song in particular, in my opinion has the WORST tracking in the entire game. How can a track with such elementary-level dance moves be so hard??
Eventually, I gave up trying to 100% Just Dance 2 to and went straight to the 3rd game in the series. The tracking here, MUCH MUCH better. Ubisoft finally has their shit together! :D...Well not really lmao.

As you can see, I had WAY better luck 5 Star-ing every song in this game. Most of them I managed to get first try. Others like Boogie Wonderland and Price Tag were lowkey infuriating. Everything else was pretty chill though. Despite being my highest scoring song in the game, I actually really hate that Gwen Stefani song (sorry lmao). I LOVED Barbra Streisand though. I really only have 7 songs left in the game to complete and Im done, but Im having trouble with these last 7, especially "I Was Made For Lovin' You" and "Jamaican Dance". This game is absolutely killing my arms though so Im taking a break from this cursed series indefinitely. Also, I accidentally threw my Wiimote during "Hey Boy Hey Girl" and the little black sensor piece popped out of it, now I gotta go and fix it :/

Don't ask about Just Dance 4, Im not gonna bother with it.
Im gonna go back to 100%ing games that don't need motion controls. :P
