Messing with better discord themes
Aug. 24th, 2025 01:48 pmI was on Twitter the other day (totally not a regular occurrence I swear) and found these two separate posts showcasing what the discord clients would look like on older operating systems such as Vista and XP. You can check these out here!.... aaannd here!
Looking at these posts, I was reminded of Better Discord, which is a third party client that adds additional functionality to discord, as well as customization! I've used Better Discord in the past -- back in 2020 when I wasn't too knowledgeable on text-based programming languages -- and decided i'd take a look at it again just to see how developing custom themes on discord works!
And would you look at that? Better Discord themes are developed in css! dude! I know css!! That's so cool! I could probably make discord look like this if i could!
Making my discord client look 100% faithful to Windows Aero like the twitter posts I linked would probably take months of work, and I'm honestly not sure if i can take up that much work, so I downloaded 11pixels' skeuomorphic discord theme, took a quick look at the css from their GitHub, and added some custom css to give it a blue tint. heres how it looks:
Pretty cool huh! This was done by installing the skeumorphic theme I linked above and adding this in the custom css settings in BetterDiscord:
You can mess with the hex codes to make it whatever color you want if you're like,, not a fan of blue or you have a sickly obsession with pink or something lmao.
Keep in mind that BetterDiscord is technically against TOS since it modifies the discord client. I haven't had my account disabled or banned before but if you're weary about this kind of stuff, I wouldn't recommend doing it!
